Upcoming
Somerville Freight Cut-Off
Sunday, April 27th, 2025
Join the B&MRRHS on Sunday April 27th at 10 AM for another Sunday morning history walk as we explore part of the former B&M Somerville Freight Cut-Off! This 2 miles out and back walk will cover a section of this once busy urban line, which is now a popular paved rail trail through Somerville. We'll pass three station sites, a tower site and learn about the fascinating history of this vital connection on the system. Somerville Junction will also give us a chance to view MBTA Green Line, Commuter Rail and potentially Amtrak Downeaster operations.
There is no charge for this event, but registration is required. To register for the walk, please sign up on the Google form through the following link:
The walk is limited to 10 participants, and specific event details will be emailed to the first 10 people to sign up a few days before the walk. If you get placed on the wait list, you will be notified of this by email, as well as if a space opens up for you. Steady rain or severe weather will cancel the walk, and participants will be notified that morning should that occur.
Past History Walks
The Bemis Branch
Sunday, March 23rd, 2025
Thanks to those who came out for this mornings history walk on the remains of the Bemis Branch. Chilly March winds did not prevent us from having an enjoyable walk and we made plenty of interesting discoveries including trestle support remains, a long forgotten crossing sign, and even some iron!
The Stoneham Branch
Sunday, October 20th, 2024
Thanks to all who came out for the history walk today on the Stoneham Branch! The weather was perfect for it and we were able to view quite a few pieces of this short branch line that still exist today! The colors weren’t bad either!
